These delightful spring floral earrings were made with a pair of my beads. They were made on a white base, with pink, mint, and aqua flowers, enhanced with bright pink buds!

Since my last post, almost everything in my perfume shop has been updated with new pictures and new labels. And last but not least new inspirations!

Let' see there has been A new perfume called "Vampyre" ~ a sweet and seductive blend that will captivate you senses, as well as leaving you a feeling of emotional balance.

My second new perfume blend is called "Immortal" ~ a light floral scent, that will leave you feeling a sense of confidence as well as balancing your spirit.

BHV Inspiration Strikes Again!!

There is a new thread this month on the Bead Hive group I am in, It is called Bead Recipe of the Month. Each month a member will get to put together a recipe with beads, for all of us to "see what we come up with". This month's recipe was thrown together by our very own Kim of The Pink Martini Boutique, she chose 3 lampwork focals, 4 bali or hill tribe accent beads, and 8 gemstone beads as the ingredients.

I chose to use these lovely night sky lampwork focals, 4 bali accent beads, and 8 snow quartz beads as the gemstone. I loved the mixture of the lampwork with gemstones. It is a wonderful recipe, and sparked my creativity for jewelry design after a long break. Thank you Kim!!

"Granada," the Spanish word for "pomegranate".
Punica granatum nana is a dwarf variety of P. granatum popularly used as Bonsai trees and as a patio plant. The only other species in the genus Punica is the Socotran pomegranate (Punica protopunica), which is endemic to the island of Socotra. It differs in having pink (not red) flowers and smaller, less sweet fruit. Pomegranates are drought-tolerant, and can be grown in dry areas with either a Mediterranean winter rainfall climate or in summer rainfall climates.
The pomegranate is native to the region of Persia and has been cultivated in Iran, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and the Mediterranean region for several millennia.
In Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, there are wild pomegranate groves outside of ancient abandoned settlements. The cultivation of the pomegranate has a long history in Transcaucasia where decayed remains of pomegranates dating back to 1000 BC have been found. The Kur-Araz lowland is the largest area in this region where pomegranate is cultivated. Carbonized exocarp of the fruit has been identified in Early Bronze Age levels of Jericho, as well as Late Bronze Age levels of Hala Sultan Tekke on Cyprus and Tiryns. A large, dry pomegranate was found in the tomb of Djehuty, the butler of Queen Hatshepsut; Mesopotamian cuneiform records mention pomegranates from the mid-Third millennium BC onwards.

Here are a set of beads I made this evening, I used a Pomegranate Swirl Rod for the pinkish colored flowers. That is what inspired this blog post....lol

Some Random Facts about pomegranates:
The pomegranate is the symbol and heraldic device of the city of Granada in Andalusia, Spain. Pomegranate is one of the symbols of Armenia, representing fertility, abundance and marriage. It is the official logo of many cities in Turkey. Pomegranate juice is used for natural dyeing of non-synthetic fabrics.

Easy Wire Clasp..........Tutorial

Its been a while since I blogged, so I thought I would pull out an old tutorial on how to make your own wire clasps!!

Materials needed:

14-gauge soft wire of your choice (1" depending on size of your clasp)

20-gauge soft wire of your choice (2" depending on size of your clasp)

2-8mm jumprings

Chasing Hammer

Steel bench block/Anvil

Round Nose pliers

Chain Nose pliers

Flush cutters

Misc. beads/spacers of your choice

OK Here We Go!

1. Form your top "S" curve with the 14-gauge wire, hang it on the side of your bench block and gently hammer about 1/4" flat.

2. Take your chain nose pliers and curve the bottom of the flattened space, gently up to your desired point.

3. Take the amount you desire of the coiled wire and add it to the top of your "S" clasp. (This amount will be smaller then the second piece, due to the tighter curve in the top section) Add your accent beads/spacers to the center, then place the remaining section of the coil on the bottom of the "S" clasp.

4. Cut your wire so there is roughly 1/4" remaining. Repeat step number 2 on the bottom half of your clasp.

File any bits of wire that is poking out. Form your "S" Clasp to your liking and add your jump rings.

WA-LA Your Done and ready to use your very own

handmade clasp in one of your projects!

On Friday evening I captured some pictures the peonies in my yard. I have been playing with them and trying to decide if I prefer them in black & white or in color. I am be no means a great photographer but I like them, and believe I will have prints made to hang in my craft room. While the top picture is my favorite here are a few of the others that I took.

Wire, Wire, Wire

Recently I have been on a wire working kick. I have found some great tuts on etsy! This bracelet was made with 12 gauge copper wire, swirled and coiled, it has a front closure with a lampwork focal made by me. The other items have been some earrings. The first pair I gave to my mom for mothers day.....a day late...lol

A Walk Into Eden....

I was looking for some inspiration this evening and went on the hunt for some type of floral backdrop. I came across this gorgeous picture of draping Wisteria. Purple is my all time favorite color, and the vines in this inspiration photo are just amazing.

Anyone who has seen the lush beauty of wisteria draping dreamily across a warm summer landscape can relate to its meanings of: Beauty, Love, Fertility, and Exapansion.

A few facts:

* Wisteria is a woody climbing vine with about ten species. Wisteria vines climb steadily by twining themselves either clockwise or counterclockwise around any available support. Wisteria is hardy and fast-growing and sometimes considered to be a an invasive species. Wisteria can be proagated by hard cuttings, soft cuttings or seeds. The flowers of some wisteria are edible and used to make wine, but other species are toxic.
* Wisteria is remarkably important in Chinese art, feng shui and has distinct symbolism in Buddhism.
* In Victorian times people used more symbols and gestures to communicate rather then words. During this period the meaning of Wisteria was Steadfast.
Communicating with flowers became the height of fashion under Queen Victoria, when nineteenth century publishers produced dozens of dictionaries explaining "floriography" as "The Language of Flowers". During this period the meaning of Wisteria was Welcome.

For this piece I used a combination of copper and sterling silver wire. I named it for the above mentioned song title, which is one of my personal favorites. The Carnelian chips that encircle the piece are ment to represent the outer edges of the sun. The faceted lemon quartz focal in the center, surrounded by faceted crystal quartz rondells, offer a balance to the color combination. The dangles feature crystal quartz as well as a solitary lemon quartz briolette added to the base. The frame of the pendant is wrapped in sterling silver wire. For the attachment bail on the top of the pendant I flattened a piece of 16 gauge copper wire and finished it with a ripple effect. Which was highly polished to a lighter luster giving a strong offset to the piece. I then decided to add a coil the center for more balance. For the chain, I did a figure 8 wrap linking them togather with jump rings. They are doubled near the base and singled up around to the ends. Where we come to the toggle, in which I made 2 swirls, one is larger then the other and they hook together nicely.

I feel overall the balance of the piece is right on,

It is very comfortable to wear.

With just the right amount of "POP"

This is definately a statement piece.

Recently I won the 3 month Era challenge in the Bead Hive group. I was first astounded by the announcement, and second very humbled to be chosen by the BHV members as the winner, as there was several outstanding entries! This challenge was started on January 1, 2009, each month we were asked to make a piece of jewelry inspired by a time period within an era.

The piece I entered as the first section I designed to reflect the Egyptian period.
This bright shiny copper bangle features a stunning lapis focal. The wire form was hand woven down both sides of the focal. To finish the “look” I then added lapis rounds in a wave pattern.

My second entry was designed to reflect the Renaissance Period. Where I made a copper wire form hair thingy...lol Don't you just love my technical terms. Anyway the piece was adorned in garnet faceted rondells, emerald swarvoski crystals, with cubic zirconia teardrops in crystal clear and amethyst freefalling from the center swirls.

The third entry was designed for the Art Nouveau Period. In this piece I went all out, necklaces are something I rarely endulge in, each copper component was hand formed, every dangle wire wrapped, and assembled. Then came the fun part, adding the pizzazz. Swarovski crystals in blue and black adorn this piece. To finish the piece it was "aged" with liver-of-sulfur.

You might recognize that blue and black part as that is the title of my blog and the new name for this necklace. I will be creating a line of copper and sterling silver wire creations that will reflect the name of a song that the inspiration for the piece stemmed from. Some of them (like the one I am currently working on) might be a bit eccentric or eclectic so be forwarned..lol

Busy, busy, busy.....

Over the past week I have been updating photo's of all my jewelry creations, opened new stores on Artfire and 1000Markets. I am very excited to be a part of these wonderfull selling venues. Mostly I am excited to be a part of the 1000Markets community, they have worked very hard and are dedicated to the talented handmade artisans I have seen there. You can read all about it here.

Along with opening the new shops I have completed a custom bracelet for an absolutely delightful client from Etsy. She contacted me for an anniversary present for herself, with this type of piece in mind.

Here is an excerpt from her request, "I was married on the beach in Hawaii at sunset and spent some of my time swimming with the turtles, hence my love of them........When I think of turtles, I think of the ocean which to me looks mostly blue, ........lots of those sterling turtles and sterling shell charms and the other smaller sea shells currently on the bracelet as in the picture."

After going thru different types of materials, and comparing notes with ideas, we came up with the perfect combination for her anniversary bracelet. I started with the base design of Abalone rectangle beads, jet swarvoski crystals, and sterling silver findings. To that I added 10 different dangle clusters in just the right spaces to still show all of the base elements. The clusters include large and small potato pearls in three different shades of blue, cream freshwater cultured pearls, sparkling abalone, teal, and green shell coins. Then of course there are tons of sterling silver sea turtles, sanddollars, shells, and sea horses all in various sizes. We do not want to forget the starfish, whale, fish, and dolphin charms that are in the mix as well. This piece closes with a heart lobster clasp. So without further adieu........

Holy moly its been almost half a month since I have blogged.....where have I been? Oh i know the answer to that. PSP'n...lol I have a new addiction. PSP and scrapbooking! Oh ya and there is the other part too not feeling well, so I have been scared to turn on the torch in case the fumes made my sinus infection worse, and not really having a whole lot of energy to create. Got to get out of this funk and over this junk!

So anyhoo thought I would share a few things I have made over the last 2 weeks of playing on the computer. Just some siggie tags with some really great freebie scrapbook papers and elements. Still getting the hang of it but I sure have been trying, there are sooooo many things you can do with Paint Shop Pro and animation, its just mind~boggling trying to learn it all..lol Of course the 1st one is dedicated to another addiction:

So I haven't posted in about a week or so....shame on me!! I have been working with wire for an Era Challenge on the BHV group and then decided to make a second weaved bangle...I know gluten for punishment. We are having a 3 month challenge, each month we are to make a piece of jewelry inspired by a time period within an era. Our choices for the first section of the challenge were Prehistory, Sumerian, Egyptian, or Greek. I picked the Egyptian Era for my piece, this piece is a bright shiny copper bangle with a lapis focal and rounds, and it is weaved down each side. (My weaving skills leave much to be desired...so nobody laugh)
The second one is copper and sterling silver. I oxadized it to have a deeper color and to set off the focal boro bead, which I made and was inspired to do so by the picture on the left center... Still need more practice, but I think I am getting better, or at least I can tell a big difference between the first and second one I have ever done.

So whatcha think?

Twilight or Harry Potter?

So I find myself utterly bored without anything to read lately. I have read all 4 books of the Twilight series at least twice, seen the Twilight movie and can not seem to get enough. I want more! I am a total addict! I really hope that Stephanie Meyer will finish Midnight Sun, as the partial draft was very intriguing since it is from Edwards point of view. It would be awesome if she did all 4 of the main ones from his view point. I have also read all of the outtakes posted on Meyer's website for each book, if you havn't checked them out you should. Summit Entertainment is due this week to announce if Taylor Lautner will be be cast as Jacob Black again. I sure hope he can buff up and is chosen for the second movie as it would be a disapointment if the original cast was not in the rest of them.

Now for Harry Potter ~ I have read each and every book in this series more then twice, and seen all the movies that are out several times...lol At one time you could of called me obsessed as I would watch the movies and read the books at the same time. I can't wait for the new movie to be realeased.

The gemstone of the month for the BHV is garnet. I just love this stone, eventhough its hard to capture in photos. Always ends up looking purple...lol This is the piece I made, a watch with garnet leaves and rounds, as well as swarvoski crystals, pearls and sterling silver findings.

Is it really that easy in daily life? For me the answer would be no, I always seem to lean toward the negative side of things or the correct term for me would be a pessimist. Don't get me wrong, I don't always tend to go in that direction, but the negative side is always in the back of my mind somewhere.

Are you ready? I know that I am not!! With thanksgiving done and over with, now starts the holiday rush. Buying for teenagers has to be the worst! If it doesn't cost a small fortune for most this year I will be surprised. Ipods, cell phones, and numerous other electronic gadgets are all the rage. Have been for some time, but they just keep getting more expensive and are only used for a short period of time. What happened to "Its the thought, that counts"? I am sure I am not alone in wondering where the "Spirit" went in having "The Christmas Spirit". I for one dread the holidays, because it seems everyone is out for what can I get, how much will they spend this year, or give you a faint smile saying I love it.....then mumbling under there breath what a cheapskate.

Holiday decorations seem to come out earlier and earlier each year. I think this spoils the some of the fun, or for me it does. I like to decorate and love seeing the lights as much as the next guy, but to see them out in full force before Thanksgiving just doesnt seem right to me. Somehow I get past this and am ready to take it all on, this year its just coming to me slower...lol

YUMMY ~ Pumpkin Bread

With the holidays coming up quickly I thought what better to blog about then my favorite holiday treat!

Recipe:

3 1/2 cups flour

1/2 teaspoons salt

2 teaspoons baking soda

1 teaspoon nutmeg

2 teaspoons cinnamon

2 cups canned pumpkin
1 cup salad oil

2/3 cup water

4 eggs

3 cups sugar

Nuts, raisins, or dates may be added.

Sift all dry ingredients. Combine all liquids and slowly add to dry ingredients stirring all the time until smooth. Add nuts, and/or raisions if desired. Grease 4 one pound coffee cans and fill half full. Bake at 350° for one hour. Each loaf serves 8 to 10 people.

What is it with men and hunting for sport? As I drove about yesterday all I seen was pickup trucks full of men in bright orange caps and camo clothes. Do they do this for the thrill of the hunt, or just as an excuse to get out of the house? I mean come on yesterday it was in the 30s with a absolutely chilling wind, and sleet-snow mix coming down. Why would anyone want to sit out in that for hours at a time, just hoping to see the "Big" one?

I'll tell you why, so they have bragging rights for the next year on what they believe they accomplished! Or so they have one of them ole' timers stories for years to come, on the "Big One" that got away....... Maybe its just me, but that sounds ridiculous. I would much rather be sitting at home in front of a cozy fire, doing something constructive.

But it could just be me...... Who knows?!?

Lesson on Trees

Autumn can be a spectacular season of bright blue skies, cool temperatures, and brilliant leaf color. During the growing season, most tree leaves are green because they are full of chlorophyll. Plants use chlorophyll to capture sunlight for photosynthesis, the process that enables them to manufacture their own food. The amount of chlorophyll is so high during the summer that the green color masks all other pigments present in the leaf. As the days grow shorter in the fall, chlorophyll production slows down and eventually stops. The carotenoids and anthocyanins that are present in the leaf then become visible.

Characteristics of particular species of trees:

Oaks turn red, brown, or russet

Hickories turn golden bronze

Dogwood turns purplish red

Beech turns light tan

Red maple turns brilliant scarlet

Whew it is chilly out this morning only 41 degrees. As much as I love fall, I could do without the cool mornings. This month not only brings cooler temperatures but my favorite holiday! Halloween are you ready? I know I am not...lol because that means Thanksgiving and Christmas are right around the corner. Anyhoo not alot been going on lately, sure havn't made much, but I did manage to get my Gemstone of the month for the BHV completed last night. This was made with flourite, czech glass, lucite, swarvoski crystals, and sterling silver. Its more of a spring/early summer piece, but I love the soft muted colors.

Hopefully I can get myself back on track and get some beadies made soon!

Oh my gosh where does the time go? I have a few new things to share, one is a set of beadies that won 2nd place by members vote for the BHV Summer Fun Challenge. They are a set of buttons with ivory, sterling silver, and electric blue.

The second piece is my very first sculptured dragon. Its only the head and wings but its a start. I think he turned out pretty good!

Then my last item was my entry in the gemstone of the month ~ Carnellian, with lampies by me, sterling silver, and swarvoski crystals.

Now to just get in time to torch some more, and make something for the Color of the month which is Royal Lilac.

On the Bead Hive, the ebay group that I am a member of, we have a Bead of the Month (BOTM) club where we swap beads with a designated partner. A few months ago I was paired with a lady named Shelley. I sent her a set of boro lampwork beads with the BOTM, and she created this Gorgeous necklace with them! She added big, beautiful swarvoski crystals, and a pendant made by Dhea Powers. Jewelry Hiatus Over for now...lol

Well after not making any actual jewelry pieces other then a pendant for the last 2-3 weeks I decided it was time to play with beadies again. I bought these beautiful polymer clay coins from an artist on ebay/etsy named Susan better known as Squirrelette . The flowers have a glorious combination of pinks ranging from light pink to a deep pink almost a maroon color. I feel this set certainly inspired me to create! It is full of freshwater pearls, sterling silver, swarvoski crystals & pearls, with some czech glass satin rounds as accents, used to pull the colors of the leaves out of the floral coins.

4th Woman in History Series Bracelet

Margaret Brown is widely known as "The Unsinkable Molly Brown," a woman famous for surviving the sinking of the Titanic. She was also an actress, an activist and was a devoted philanthropist. She was involved with the women's suffrage movement, was one of the founders of the Denver Woman's Club which assisted women and children and also worked to begin one of the first juvenile courts in the country. Shortly after she attempted to gain a seat in Congress, even before women received the right to vote. Made with my own Lampwork, sterling silver, swarvoski pearls and crystals.

This is Luigi. I recently taken a freeform boro class, was playing on the torch a bit last night..started out with a marble and added a bit too much glass and came up with this little guy. Well he isn't all that little...lol about 2" or so long and almost as tall. Hope you all like him as much as I do, for my first fish, I think I did pretty good.

Every- one knows the story of The Queen of Sheba, but just in case here is a little info: Sheba was a biblical character who also figures in Islamic tradition—where she is named Bilqis—and in Ethiopian legend, where, as Makeda, wife of King Soloman, she is credited with founding the first royal line of the Kingdom of Sheba in southwest Arabia.

This was made using some stunning lampwork that I received just yesterday in a ROAB (Random act of beadiness) from a member of the BHV. Every few months one of these are hosted by our fabulous Heather, the members partners are kept secret until everyone who signed up receives there goodies! It is so much fun!!

Bracelet is topped off with swarvoski pearls and lots of sterling silver.

Second In Series...Women in History

So here it is the second piece in my new series. I was thinking of picking just one First lady, but then all I could think of was pearls, so I combined them. The piece features white freshwater pearls, pink swarvoski pearls, and sterling silver. Even though the design is very simple I believe it makes an elegant statement.

The word pearl has become a metaphor for something rare, fine, and admirable. Who better to represent this then the following first ladies:
Mary Todd Lincoln, Jackie Kennedy, & Nancy Reagan

New Series Women in History

I will be starting a new line of Jewelry. Each Piece will represent a Woman or group of women in history.

The first piece is Godiva. I was browsing thru some pictures and came across this gorgeous print. I just love the colors and textures represented.

The rich texture of the featured inspiration photo match the lucious swirls of color in the lampwork beads by glass artist's, Dhea & Russ Powers. They are accented with shimmering Swarovski crystals in rich light Siam. Lots of Bali sterling silver polishes off this lovely design. Zodiac Challenge

This bracelet was made for the Zodiac Challenge on the BHV. We were challenged with creating a piece, inspired by our own Zodiac symbol, element, planet, flower or gemstone. My zodiac sign is Taurus - The Bull, I chose to create a piece with turquoise as it comes from the earth.

I recently attended a gem show where I acquired the turquoise nuggets used, found this gorgeous focal to make sure it had a certain bold flair and sterling silver to bring it all together.

I recently participated in The BHV Count your Blessings Challenge. This piece was inspired by my blessings. We were challenged to list 5 things in each of the following catagories and create a piece that would represent them: Loved ones, Beautiful things, Things I like about me, Things that make me smile, goals/aspirations. The angel charm is representing my grandmother as I know she watches over us all every day. Flower charms for the beauty of nature, Butterflies for new beginnings, Purple swarvoski crystals because that is my favorite color and they are beautiful, and last but not least the Milk tea agate ovals because they I love gemstones and they reminded me of the moon. Members pieces were submitted and then there was a drawing for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. I was fortunate enough to be chosen for 2nd place! I am so excited as I have never won anything for my jewelry designs. We even get prizes!!

Here are my new beadies from this weekend, I will be getting my kiln in the next few days! I am so excited!! The mushroom set is from the inspiration pic on BeadU, the large focal without a name yet, as well as a set from glass that I received in the BeadU "Getting to know U exchange" from Alyson, and then there is a Holiday set with red's/green's. Harry Potter Inspiration

On BeadU for eBay, I had the pleasure of picking the theme for the inspiration thread. I chose Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Here are my designs so far....lol yes I have another one in mind..

It is Kambaba Jasper/Russian Jade, there is a dragon charm on the end.

This is my second piece, Crystal and Smoky Quartz, with some wonderful czech glass bi-color rounds, and copper.

I have completed a new Harry Potter Inspiration piece last night. It is made of marble, peach aventurine, jet, and sterling silver findings.

Can you tell that I love Harry Potter?......lol
